How the 30% Tax Works

Roblox applies a 30% commission on almost every transaction. This means you keep 70% of the sale price.

  • Gamepasses & Developer Products
  • Classic Clothing (Shirts, Pants)
  • UGC Accessories (Marketplace items)

*Note: Groups also distribute funds post-tax. Use our calculator to ensure you have enough funds for payouts.

Why Precision Matters

Roblox doesn't just round to the nearest number; it floors the value.
Example: Selling for 15 R$?
15 × 0.7 = 10.5. You might expect 11, but you get 10 R$.

Technical Deep Dive

Why is the tax exactly 30%?

Roblox implemented a flat 30% marketplace fee in 2019 to cover platform costs (hosting, moderation, payments). This applies to nearly all transactions except group payouts.

Does clothing have a different fee?

No. Clothing (shirts/pants) used to have a 30% fee. As of 2026, UGC creators pay the same 30% fee as gamepasses and other marketplace items.

Can I get a refund on the tax?

No. The 30% is deducted instantly and permanently. There is no way to recover it unless you are distributing funds within a group (which is tax-free).

How does the rounding work?

Roblox doesn't round to the nearest number; it 'floors' the value. If your share is 10.9 Robux, you receive 10 Robux, not 11. Our calculator handles this logic accurately.

Is the tax different for Plugins?

No. Selling plugins on the Creator Store incurs the same 30% marketplace fee, just like models, audio, and other assets.

Can I avoid the Roblox tax?

The only legitimate way to avoid the tax is via Group Payouts, where distributing funds *already inside* a group to members is tax-free. However, the 30% fee still applies when the money first enters the group.

When is the tax deducted?

The fee is deducted instantly at the moment of purchase. You will never see the full amount in your pending balance, only the 70% net revenue.
